Tesla Gigafactory in Texas: Double capacity and new models on the way

According to the latest reports from foreign media, Tesla has formally submitted an application to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, and plans to double the size of its Texas Gigafactory in Austin to further increase vehicle production.

Currently, the Tesla Gigafactory is a behemoth that covers more than 5 million square feet (about 464,500 square meters) and produces the Model Y, the Cybertruck, and the 4,680 battery units that power the Cybertruck. However, Tesla has not been satisfied with this, but has chosen to continue to expand production capacity to meet the strong demand for electric vehicles.

According to the "Austin Business Journal" report, Tesla submitted 10 new applications, although there are few details, but mentioned the "body frame", "casting" and other projects, which undoubtedly implies that Tesla will strengthen the ability in body manufacturing and casting, laying a solid foundation for future production capacity expansion. At the same time, the building permit application also revealed that construction will begin now and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025, which means Tesla will see a big leap in production capacity in the next few years.

In addition to the capacity expansion, Tesla also plans to build more models at the Texas Gigafactory. It is reported that Tesla has made it clear that it will produce Robotaxi/Cybercab at the Gigafactory Texas, which will open up a new battlefield for Tesla in the field of self-driving taxis. In addition, Tesla also plans to build two new models based on the Model Y production line.
